Why do we have two kidneys?

Kidney theme

We are fortunate to have both kidneys as a consequence of evolution. With two kidneys, one can rest and clear itself of the accumulated waste while the other works. If we had only one we could live, but it would work at very forced speeds throughout our lives. The body has evolutionary and in embryonic development, bilateral symmetry.

The body shows an external bilateral symmetry that is not maintained internally because it presents many asymmetries in the position of the different organs. In the initial stages, we have a heart, a liver, a spleen located in the middle of the body, and other double organs, which divide in the middle and grow apart in development but start from the same type of embryonic tissue. Thus, the double organs divide in two, and the only ones “move” from the center to the corresponding side, “giving the impression”, in the end, that we are not symmetrical because the unique organs are each on one side.

Many organs are duplicated, others are not. The liver for example or the heart are not duplicated but well are the kidneys, lungs and even the brain consist of two almost symmetrical halves although with different functions.

How do the kidneys work?

  2. Our bodies are so interesting. As you say they are symmetrical on the outside but internally contain different organs in different places. Luckily we do have two kidneys.

The list of foods for good kidney health are all foods I like and consume regularly, so this is good for me. I also exercise regularly and do some resistance training, so I think that my kidneys should be in good health.

Recently, a friend of mine suffered for over a week with kidney stones. I saw him every day, and he did not look good, He was in constant pain, despite being on pain medication, and was not able to sleep… he became very irritated and grumpy. We were all relieved when he was finally able to pass the kidney stones out through his urine.
Thanks for bringing awareness to a very important subject.

I was clueless about the food that was good for kidney. I had few questions: Is meat good for kidney? Is seafood a better alternative than fresh or frozen meat?

Would love to know your opinion on the same?
